details
Manufactured in 1992 to German market C00 specification, this left hand drive 964 Carrera RS was first registered in the UK on 8 December 1997, with four keepers recorded by the DVLA since that time. Under the ownership of the most recent keeper – since 25 March 2010 – the car has seen little use with documentation for minor maintenance and repair work carried out by Porsche specialists, Autocraft and JZM Porsche.
Now showing only 48,407km, the car has most recently undergone extensive preparation with well-regarded 964 RS expert, Greg Cranmer of Heritage AutoWerks. Work carried out includes a full glass-out, bare-metal repaint, removal of all after-market alarm systems and complete rewiring to standard, fitting of replacement standard specification door cards, major service of both engine and gearbox and careful refurbishment of the original magnesium wheels.
Still with its original toolkit and space-saver spare wheel, and finished in the rare combination of classic Black with black interior, this Carrera RS is a stunning, low mileage example.
Our thoughts
The 964 RS has long been a favourite of the keen Porsche driver, a stalwart of the track day scene from the 1990s onwards. The car sits at a unique crossroads in the Porsche back catalogue, the first RS after the famous 1973 2.7 RS but sufficiently modern that long journeys in mixed conditions can be taken without a second thought.
In our view, the car represents good value in the Porsche market as a bona fide collectable 911 RS, with only 2,282 cars produced. Looking at values of the rarer 964 RS cars (such as the 3.8), the recent eligibility for import into the US (as being over 25 years old) and the growing appreciation of the car as an extremely usable but special 911, this is a car that we would take over a modern 911 GT3 without a moment’s hesitation.
This example in simple black and black is rather more understated than some of the more lurid hues. The tone does suit its simple and usable status. This is a great car with a good history and much recent expenditure. As such, it is definitely a special 911 that can either be bought and treasured or simply used as intended.
