model history
The 993 model 911 was launched by Porsche in December 1993, with a claim to be 80% new compared to the outgoing 964. The 993 proved to be the right car at the right time for Porsche as, from the moment of launch, the factory struggled to keep up with demand.
Briton Tony Hatter designed the new body and replaced the straight lines of the 964 with softer lines. The bulges of the 993 were muscular looking and smoothly integrated into the body’s shape and the frontal appearance of the 993 seemed more aggressive and modern!
Handling was improved significantly with new alloy multi-link rear suspension derived from the ‘Weissach’ axle first seen on the 928, reducing the 911’s well known trait for oversteer.
Engine performance was increased by 22bhp for the standard models, overcoming the car’s additional 20kg weight and improving performance all round. The C2S models benefitted from Varioram variable valve timing induction technology which improved torque in the mid-range and reduced fuel consumption and emissions. Power rose to 285bhp, 13 bhp more than standard.
Only 3,714 C2S coupes were made worldwide of which 344 were delivered new to the UK market with many specified with the Tiptronic gearbox.
this car
This 993 C2S was first registered in April 1997 and boasts an excellent service history, at first with Porsche dealers until 2005 and subsequently with independent Porsche specialists. The car had 6 previous owners before the current owner purchased it in 2008, covering only 12,000 miles in the last 16 years.
The car is totally standard bar a few small modifications which are a Blaupunkt Bremen DAB radio, Meta Trak tracker with a Thatcham approved alarm system, Eibach lowering springs and a Cargraphic sports exhaust.
Nick Prowse Motorsport have serviced the car for the last decade, with the usual 993 maintenance tasks all covered off as needed.
In December of last year, Specialised Paintwork repainted the front end of the car to address stone chips from road use. The wheels and brake callipers were also restored at the same time.
